How Netflix saved Gilmore Girls

There are so many different ways Netflix can have a hand in helping save a series, and no show knows that better than Gilmore Girls. Obviously, the series had a very successful seven-season run on The WB and The CW, and it thrives in syndication to this day.

But when the series arrived on Netflix in the fall 2014, a whole new world opened up for the already beloved series. Gilmore Girls grew to new heights of popularity as old fans rediscovered their favorite show and new fans visited Stars Hollow for the first time.

While chatter of a return to the Gilmore Girls world had been minimal before the series hit Netflix, it’s safe to say that the growth in cultural consciousness tipped the conversation for a revival in a positive direction. By 2016, Netflix released the four-episode miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Clearly, shows that have nothing to do with Netflix can reap the rewards of the Netflix bump. Whether it’s Manifest getting a new season out of the deal or the entire Gilmore Girls cast getting back together for a victory lap, our streaming choices can pay off in incredible ways.
