How Netflix saved Dynasty

When the Dynasty reboot first premiered on The CW in 2017, everyone seemed to have underestimate the little soap that could. Its low ratings combined with a revolving door of casting changes in the early days turned off prospective viewers and had them wondering how the series was still on the air.

If there’s anything we have learned from the potential sale of The CW, it’s that the network didn’t put all of its eggs in the ratings basket. There are many factors that go into deciding a show’s value beyond how many eyeballs are watching the live airings each week.

Being so, Dynasty owes much of its success on the international audience on Netflix. The series might not look like a massive hit on the streaming service stateside, but it’s a homerun around the world. What Dynasty lacks in live viewers, it makes up for on Netflix internationally.

Even though Dynasty is a delicious soap that everyone should be watching, the series probably wouldn’t be in its fifth season without the international Netflix audience tuning in. Let’s hope they continue to tune in for many more seasons to come.
