It is the end of the road for the coming-of-age drama Never Have I Ever created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. On Tuesday, March 8, Kaling announced via her Twitter page that Netflix had renewed Never Have I Ever for a fourth and final season, meaning the show will soon be coming to an end.

She also acknowledged that the highly-anticipated third season is set to premiere sometime this summer, although we still don’t have an exact release date for Never Have I Ever season 3. Kaling thanked fans for all of their support throughout the show’s “steamy romance” and “hilarious adventures,” giving a special shoutout to all of the #Bevi and #Daxton stans out there.

Why did Netflix cancel Never Have I Ever?

We don’t know why Netflix canceled Never Have I Ever yet. However, the fact Netflix ordered an additional season and announced the show would be ending is a good sign since it means the streaming service respects the fans and writers enough to give everyone time to write a good ending for the show. That means it won’t end on a massive cliffhanger, which is nice.

Plus, now fans can enjoy the third season without worrying that it will suddenly be canceled afterward. It’s always nice to know that another season is coming (even if it sad that it will be the last). As for why the fourth season will be the last, we can’t say right now., but the most likely reason is money.

Based on Kaling’s note, she is happy with the decision, so it might have been a mutual agreement between her, Fisher and Netflix to end the show rather than Netflix suddenly axing it. Never Have I Ever has been a critical success and has reportedly been viewed by over 40 million households since it debuted, which is pretty impressive.

Here is Erin Underhill’s (President, Universal Television) statement on the show ending, courtesy of Deadline:

"“Four seasons of Never Have I Ever is truly exciting and a little bittersweet because, as a loyal fan, I’d love Devi’s journey to go on forever. But just like high school, all great things must come to an end. A big shout out to our fearless Cricket Queens, Mindy and Lang, and our exceptional cast and crew, who have authentically captured the emotional rollercoaster ride that defines our teenage years. We can’t wait to experience all of the messiness, the LOLs and the tears that will surely unfold in Devi’s senior year.”"

Bela Bajaria, Netflix Head of Global TV, also added that they were “eternally grateful to Mindy, Lang and the wildly talented cast. And we can’t wait for everyone to see the final two seasons.”

Never Have I Ever season 3 release date updates

While we know the third season will premiere in the summertime; it’s still not clear when so all we can do is speculate. Season 2 debuted in July 2021, so the third season will probably premiere sometime around then this year.

Never Have I Ever season 4 will premiere in 2023.
