Pieces of Her age rating: Is the Netflix show appropriate for kids?
By Mads Lennon
Pieces of Her is finally releasing tomorrow on Netflix. The new series is based on the popular Karin Slaughter of the same name. Centering around a mother and daughter, the show begins with a random act of violence that sets a devastating chain of events into motion.
Laura Oliver has worked hard to keep her secrets hidden from her daughter Andy, but when a violent act changes things, her daughter is forced to go to extremes to find out the truth about her mother and everything she’s been hiding for 30 years.
Toni Collette and Bella Heathcote star as Laura and Andy Oliver, respectively. The cast includes David Wenham, Jessica Barden, Joe Dempsie, Jacob Scipio and Omari Hardwick.
With so many people excited about the show, you might be curious as to whether it is appropriate to watch it with your family, specifically children. Here’s what you need to know.
Pieces of Her age rating
Pieces of Her is rated TV-MA and contains sex, violence, smoking, language, and nudity. It is geared toward adults. If you’ve ever read one of Slaughter’s novels, then you likely have an idea of how intense and graphic her work can be. That said, Pieces of Her is slightly less graphic than some of her other works and based on the episodes I have seen, the show is not overly explicit.
However, it is geared toward adults, so while it might not be as bloody and brutal as other Netflix content, you should proceed with caution if you plan to watch the show with family members. It is very mature and contains material that might be frightening or confusing to younger viewers. Pieces of Her isn’t “scary” per se, but it is a thriller and contains characters in peril, guns, blood, and more adult content.
