Principal photography on the third and final season of Family Reunion has commenced! This is great news for fans of the family sitcom because it means we’re one step closer to Family Reunion season 3 landing on Netflix.

Family Reunion follows the McKellan family as they travel from Seattle, Washington to Columbus, Georgia to be closer to family. Tia Mowry, Anthony Alabi, Talia Jackson, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Cameron J. Wright, Jordyn Raya James, and Loretta Devine star in the original series.

The beloved family sitcom premiered on Netflix in July 2019, and no one could’ve predicted that the show would be where it is today. As much as we hate to say it, people just aren’t watching sitcoms anymore. Successful sitcoms are few and far between, so to see Family Reunion make it to a third season is a sight to see.

Unfortunately, the third season will be the show’s swan song. But I’m pretty sure the writers have something up their sleeve that will send the show off on a high note. It’ll definitely be a memorable series conclusion. Here’s what we know about the Family Reunion season 3 production schedule.

Family Reunion season 3 starts filming

On Feb. 28, Anthony Alabi, who plays Moz McKellan on the family sitcom, posted a video of himself headed to set for day 1 of shooting on the third season on his Instagram. The caption on the video reads, “WE’RE BACK!!! First day back on set with the best TV family! I couldn’t help myself and got wild in my trailer. So excited to get going on the new season of @netflixfamilyreunion Stay tuned for more behind the scenes of our final season!”

Cameron J. Wright, who portrays Mazzi McKellan, also posted about the first day of production on his TikTok account and the video was dated Feb. 28. Talia Jackson (Jade McKellan) and Jordyn Raya James (Ami McKellan) made an appearance in the TikTok video as well.

So production on Family Reunion season 3 officially started on Feb. 28! A wrap date is unknown at the moment, but we can probably expect filming to run for at least six months. There’s also a chance that production could wrap within four or five months. We know for certain that production is taking place at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

It took eight months to shoot season 1, but this is probably because there were 20 episodes in the first season. We’re not expecting filming to last this long for the third season seeing as though there will only be 10 episodes. As we learn more about the third season’s production schedule, we’ll definitely let you in on all the details.

Family Reunion season 3 release updates

There isn’t a release date for the third season for obvious reasons. However, we’re expecting the final season to arrive on Netflix by the end of the year. We’re most likely looking at a fall or winter 2022 release. With limited information about season 3, this is our best release date prediction for now. It’s unclear if the third season will be split up like in previous seasons, but I think all ten episodes will be released at once.
