Blade Runner 2049 is coming to Netflix in March 2022!

Netflix has really outdone itself with the new selection of movies and TV shows being added to its gallery next month. Blade Runner 2049 — the sequel to Ridley Scott’s critically acclaimed1982 movie Blade Runner — is just one of the epic movies to be released on the streamer in the month of March.

Below we reveal a bit about the plot of the movie and its Netflix release date, but read with caution because there are some spoilers about the two movies below.

While it does appear we have to wait a bit until we do get to watch the movie, those who have yet to see the epic first movie, or those who simply want to revisit the story, can do so on Netflix as Blade Runner: The Final Cut is currently available to stream.

What is Blade Runner 2049 about?

The first movie in the popular franchise, Blade Runner, introduced viewers to a dystopian Los Angeles where bioengineered humanoids are known as “replicants” exist. There are special police units formed called “Blade Runners” tasked with hunting down and taking care of dangerous replicants. The first movie starred Harrison Ford, and while he does make an appearance in the sequel, which is set 30 years into the future, Ryan Gosling has taken over as the lead in Blade Runner 2049.

The synopsis for Blade Runner 2049, provided by IMDb, reads:

"“Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years.”"

Blade Runner 2049 release date on Netflix

There’s still a while left until Blade Runner 2049 is released on Netflix. According to the streamer’s March release schedule, the second neo-noir sci-fi movie in the popular franchise won’t be available to watch on Netflix until March 26.

It feels like ages, but luckily there are plenty of other new movies and shows due to come out in the month of March which will surely keep us occupied till its release!
