Netflix will delight horror fans once again as a new vampire movie is in the works. Smile (working title) will be a welcome addition to the streamer’s long list of horror titles.

Deadline reports that this film will be directed by William McGregor, who directed His Dark Materials, Gwen, and episodes of Poldark, One of Us, and Misfits. He is the youngest director to work on the mentioned series. He will co-write the film with writer Helen Kingston (The Flood), and Matt Reeves of 6th and Idaho will produce.

The film follows Milie, a girl who is bitten by a vampire on while on her school trip to Los Angeles. She learns that she can return to her human form if she destroys the vampire who bit her before the next sunrise.

Smile coming to Netflix

The film has been compared to the fast-paced Nicolas Winding Refn’s film Drive, which won him the Best Director’s Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. That is a very bold statement that, if it holds true, is even better news for fans of the vampire genre.

McGregor has received many accolades during his career, including the youngest-ever director of E4’s BAFTA award-winning drama for his work on Misfits. His feature film, Gwen, is a period folk horror drama that won a BAFTA.

He also directed the final episode of the BBC’s Poldark, which the Daily Telegraph described as “One of those rare occasions when a popular drama series delivers something that properly belongs to art.”

Smile is sure to be something special with McGregor at the helm. Keep watching Netflix Life for more information about this film.
