You season 3 was another hit for Netflix. Fans all over the world are now wondering the same thing: Will I have to wait almost two years to watch You season 4?

We hope not! Netflix renewed You for season 4 before the release of season 3. It was a surprise move to announce it before the season premiere, but we knew that You season 4 was going to happen. Netflix wouldn’t cancel this show that early!

Star Penn Badgley appeared at the streamer’s annual event TUDUM on Sept. 24, 2022 to share some news about the upcoming fourth season. We’re so excited to talk everything You season 4!

Is You season 4 finished filming?

Now that we’re about to get the first half of the new season, it’s no surprise that You season 4 is 100% done filming!

The start of filming was confirmed in March via the official You Netflix Twitter account. The fourth season had a scheduled wrap date of August 2022, meaning the show should be in post-production now.

As luck would have it, on Aug. 27, news broke that filming officially wrapped on You season 4. The wrap of production was celebrated with a group photo of Penn Badgley with other cast and crew members. We’re one step closer to seeing the new season on Netflix!

You season 4 release date

Many people were hoping the new season would come out in 2022, but that’s not the case. Fortunately, we did just get the release date for You season 4 at TUDUM 2022. Even though we won’t get the new season this year, we will get it soon enough!

You season 4 will be broken into two parts, with part 1 debuting on Feb. 9, 2023, and part 2 coming out on March 9, 2023. The fourth season consists of 10 episodes in total. Part 1 consists of the first five episodes and part 2 is made up of the remaining five episodes.

At TUDUM 2022, we got the first look teaser at You season 4, confirming who the new cast members will be playing. Plus, we learned that Joe Goldberg will be going by “Jonathan Moore.”

Watch the teaser below, but make note that the release dates for both parts have been changed since this teaser. Part 1 will be released on Feb. 9 and part 2 on March 9.

You season 4 cast

Obviously, Penn Badgley was the first confirmed cast member for You season 4. After You season 3, we know Joe Goldberg — or should we call him Nick? — is back for season 4. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Love actress Victoria Pedretti or most of the rest of the season 3 cast.

It will be really interesting to see where the story goes in You season 4 because many of the characters from season 3 could return if Joe somehow makes his way back to Madre Linda. The ones who survived, at least. I’m not so sure we have seen the last of Dottie Quinn, played by Saffron Burrows, either.

I’m also hoping that we could see Victoria Pedretti in season 4 in flashbacks or if she somehow survived the fire and poisoning. I know it’s unlikely, but my hope is that season 4 will include Love tracking down Joe and making him pay.

According to a new report from Deadline, Euphoria and The White Lotus star Lukas Gage has been cast in You season 4 as a character named Adam! The publication describes the role as:

"He’s famous for spectacularly failing to meet the standards of his successful, venerable family. An entrepreneur and a gambler, Adam is a warm and funny party host and fast friend. But underneath, Adam is hiding a trove of secrets and papering over problems with heavy self-medication."

Sounds like a potential problem for Joe!

We’ll also see Tati Gabrielle in You season 4, but I think that ship (Joe and Marienne) may have sailed. Gabrielle is confirmed to be returning with season 4, as revealed by new set photos!

We’ve also learned that Charlotte Ritchie has joined the cast of You season 4 and will play the new female lead opposite Badgley. The British Ghosts actress will play a character named Kate.

According to Deadline, Kate is “smart, independent, suspicious, misses nothing. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, a brick wall to everyone else. The daughter of a chaotic, bohemian single mother, Kate worked hard to create the life she now leads.”

We also know that she is an art gallery director and is very protective of her best friend Lady Phoebe, “a sweet and trusting person whose extreme wealth and fame tend to attract opportunists.”

Rather than love, Kate prefers casual “arrangements” and has started dating a partier named Malcolm who invites Joe into their world. Kate takes an immediate disliking to Joe.

In addition to the Kate casting announcement, the intel on her character reveals a lot about season 4. We touched on it above by mentioning Kate and her boyfriend Malcolm, but here is the full extent of new details, from Deadline:

"When Malcolm invites Joe (Badgley), an American outsider of no apparent means, into their privileged world, Kate not only immediately dislikes him, she strongly suspects something about the man is not what he seems."

It sounds like Kate is going to be a threat to Joe. Will he be able to charm her?

You season 4 plot synopsis

After the events of the You season 3 finale, there are a lot of directions the show could go in. We know Joe is free and believed to be dead, but we don’t know the motivations of any of the other characters. We’re suspecting a person or two from Joe’s past won’t believe he’s truly dead.

Based on the teaser, the fourth season will primarily take place in London. Joe now goes by the name of Jonathan Moore and is acting as a professor at a university in the U.K. He seems to want to put his dark past behind him and start fresh, but we all know that’s not going to happen.

I’m curious to see if Joe goes back to Madre Linda to find Henry in You season 4. We know that Joe doesn’t think he could be a good father, so that’s something to watch in the new season, as well. I’m also curious if You season 4 will follow Caroline Kepnes’ new book in the You book series at all, titled You Love Me. It follows Joe to a small town after he’s sick of the big city life. It appears that the show has gone off-book, but it doesn’t look like the show will go that route with him in London.

Regardless, we know Joe is going to find a new person to become obsessed with in season 4. That’s a given!

You season 4 filming locations

It looks like production for season 4 primarily took place in the UK. On April 1, the official Netflix UK & Ireland Twitter account tweeted a photo of Badgley on set of season 4. The caption to the post reads, “Watch your back… Joe is in the UK! YOU Season 4 is now filming in London.” Apparently, filming also took place at the University of London according to LAD Bible. Badgley was seen shooting scenes for season 4 on the University of London campus.

Finding out that Joe will be in the UK for season 4 was shocking to us. We thought the fourth season would be taking place in Paris since the third season ended with Joe in Paris. Maybe Joe spends some time in Paris at the beginning of season 4 and then makes his way to London.
