Netflix’s official trailer for Windfall shows a modern-day noir thriller with an outstanding cast that should make for excellent viewing. It is exciting to see another thriller added.
In July 2021, Netflix paid top dollar to acquire the rights to the film, which will add to the streamer’s growing list of home invasion movies. The streamer reportedly paid a whopping eight figures for Windfall, directed by Charlie McDowell (The One I Love, The Discovery). McDowell developed the story with Justin Lader, and Andrew Kevin Walker wrote the script.
The film stars McDowell’s wife, Lilly Collins (Emily in Paris), Jason Segel (Dispatches from Elsewhere), and Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog). McDowell and the three mentioned actors are all producing with Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montgomery, and Jack Selby.
The trailer shows that tensions are high when a billionaire tech mogul and his wife discover a home invader at their vacation home. The couple decided to spend some last-minute time away at their second home, but a strange man was there to rob them when they arrived.
Actor Omar Leyva can be seen in the trailer as a possible aid to the couple?
The robber is by no means a professional, and the couple must add him in his bumbling attempt to rob them. Collins’ character attempts to get closer to the robber, warning him not to cross the line and become a murderer saying, “You’re not a killer. What you think you have to do next… please don’t cross that line.”
It has been touted as a Hitchcockian thriller, and the trailer gives a glimpse into what you can expect from the film.
