Bel-Air, the dramatic reboot of the ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, debuts on Sunday, Feb. 13. The ten episode series re-imagines the OG’s comedic plot and expands the story to include the real danger and threat surrounding the circumstances of why Will moves from West Philadelphia to Bel-Air, Los Angeles.

In the series, Will is a basketball phenom with a shot at playing college ball. But, just like in the OG’s theme song, he gets caught up in a fight on a neighborhood court that changes his life forever. Instead of playing out the season with his team, he’s shipped off to his aunt and uncle’s house across the country so he can lie low.

It’s a situation that’s fueled by drama, but Bel-Air is deft at balancing the precarious situation Will is in with his playful personality and desire to shine no matter where he lives. The series is a coming-of-age drama that also balances storylines that include the Banks’ political aspirations and the communities that they are apart of as well.
