Sadly, we have bad news to share with you Marvel fans. Rumors are swirling around that The Punisher will be leaving Netflix soon. Continue reading because we share what we know about this terrible news.

The Punisher was a spinoff to the Marvel series Daredevil and premiered on Netflix in 2017. Critics gave the show mixed reviews, but Marvel fans absolutely loved the superhero series. The Punisher and the other Marvel Netflix shows generated strong viewership for Netflix, but sadly this didn’t prevent the superhero shows from being canceled.

Unfortunately, The Punisher was canceled after only two seasons, and the reason for its cancellation mostly had to do with Netflix and Marvel’s partnership coming to an end in 2019. Just a month after the second season was released, Netflix had pulled the plug on all of its Marvel shows, including The Punisher.

Marvel’s parent company, Disney, was preparing its own streaming service (Disney+), which basically made Netflix a rival. Disney no longer wanted its shows to be on its competitor’s platform. However, this just meant there would be no new seasons of the Marvel shows at the time. The Marvel Netflix shows were still available to stream on Netflix.

Marvel fans were not happy about this news but were thankful that they could still stream The Punisher on Netflix for the time being. But now it looks like fans won’t have that luxury anymore.

Is The Punisher leaving Netflix?

Sadly, this might be the case. According to What’s on NetflixThe Punisher and the rest of the Marvel Netflix shows, including Jessica JonesDaredevilLuke CageIron Fist and The Defenders miniseries, are all set to leave Netflix on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Why is The Punisher leaving Netflix?

Netflix and/or Marvel have not made an announcement on the reasoning for why The Punisher and the rest of the Marvel shows are departing from Netflix. However, we think it has something to do with Disney wanting to take back all of the shows it owns rights to.

As we mentioned earlier, Disney and Netflix are competitors now since Disney has its own streaming service. And since Disney+ has been up and running for a while now, it wouldn’t make sense for shows that Disney owns to be on another streaming platform.

But where will the superhero series be available to stream after the show leaves Netflix?

Where to watch The Punisher

No announcement has been made about where the show will be headed after it departs from Netflix yet. However, it’ll most likely be available to stream on Disney+ or Hulu. Since it’s rated TV-MA, it’ll probably go to Hulu. Hulu has more adult-oriented content. You can expect the rest of the Marvel Netflix shows to head to Disney+ or Hulu as well.
