Following the sudden cancellation of the live-action series Cowboy Bebop in December 2021, Netflix users were extremely gutted, wanting to do something more to convince the streaming platform to give the series one more chance.

Fans’ determination led them to start a petition titled “Save the live action Cowboy Bepop” and asked for those who would also like to see the series renewed for a second season to let their voices be heard. This led to the petition to have nearly 150,000 signatures since its launch with tons of comments agreeing that this cancellation was a great travesty and should be reversed.

“While it wasn’t perfect, it was still a fun show and entertaining on its own merits.”, one comment read. “I would love to see a season 2 for the show to grow and evolve.”

It’s safe to say that the series’ lead actor, John Cho, would agree with both the above statement and the making of the petition. After the news of the cancellation, Cho tweeted this somber gif below.

Since then, the actor has been fairly quiet on the matter, which could mean one of two things: either he has moved on completely from the series and has sought after other projects or, more optimistically, both his and fans’ voices were heard and he is currently keeping a Cowboy Bebop renewal under wraps.

How likely is the latter of the two? We tell you, here.

Will Netflix save Cowboy Bebop?

Unfortunately, Netflix saving Cowboy Bebop is fairly unlikely, especially after considering the fact the series was the fastest-canceled original series in the history of the streaming platform.

With making such a hasty decision like this, it can be assumed that executives at Netflix weren’t too keen on the show’s mixed reviews and wanted to avoid pouring any more resources into a second season that may or may not be watched by millions of viewers.

Additionally, with the site already having tons of other sci-fi titles on the way such as The Adam Project, They Cloned Tyrone, and Arcane season 2, it’s possible the idea of a Cowboy Bebop season 2 went straight to the back burner to never be revisited again. Even still, fans are holding out hope.

Many shows have been revived by Netflix despite it all — Manifest and Designated Survivor to name a few — so who’s to say Cowboy Bebop won’t be one of them? Perhaps, in due time, fans’ greatest wishes will come true. However, only time will tell what will happen next with this original series.

As it stands today, the live-action series Cowboy Bebop still remains canceled by Netflix, but you can aid in this fight to bring back this show by signing the petition and streaming every single second of the show on Netflix.
