Do Maddie and Cal end up together in Sweet Magnolias season 2?

Sweet Magnolias season 2 has arrived, and we’re finally reunited with our favorite Serenity citizens, friends, and couples. In the follow-up season to the hit romantic drama, the ebbs and flows don’t slow down, not even for the strongest pairings.

In the first season, newly divorced single mother Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) started dating Cal Maddox (Justin Bruening), who happens to be a former major league baseball player and her oldest son’s high school baseball coach.

As Maddie becomes more comfortable opening herself up to a new relationship following her ex-husband’s affair, she and Cal continue to get closer. The blossoming of their romance doesn’t stop in Sweet Magnolias season 2, though there are a fair share of rough patches.

Through all of the curveballs the second season throws Maddie and Cal’s way, do they make it out on the other side and end up together? Here’s what happened for the new couple in season 2, and what we think could happen next after that shocking cliffhanger ending.

Are Maddie and Cal together in Sweet Magnolias season 2?

To answer the initial question, yes… Maddie and Cal are together in season 2. Whether they end up together is a different story, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Maddie opts to take things slow with Cal at the start of the season, considering her family has endured a massively traumatic experience with the car accident. Also, they are still getting to know each other, especially as Maddie continues to learn more and more about Cal’s past.

When their relationship appears to be hitting its stride, Sweet Magnolias turns up the drama and presents Maddie with unforeseen secrets from Cal’s past. She respects his honesty when he opens up about going to rehab for his anger issues, though we do see her slightly pull away.

Regardless, Maddie and Cal stay together, even through his firing from the baseball team and Mary Vaughn’s blackmail of his past arrest. Some might say it would make sense for Maddie to pump the brakes on the relationship since so much is going on around them.

Well, even more mess gets added onto the pile in the season 2 finale when Cal gets into a physical altercation in Sullivan’s. Cal ends up on the wrong end of the law, but it’s still to be revealed if he’s the one actually getting arrested. He did throw the first punch…

While Maddie and Cal do technically end up together in Sweet Magnolias season 2, we have a feeling their relationship could be on the rocks if and when the series returns for season 3.
