Netflix’s Masters of the Universe franchise catalog is about to grow again!

After years in development over at Sony, the long-in-the-works live-action Masters of the Universe movie has found a new home at Netflix which has partnered with Mattel to develop a live-action motion picture based on the iconic franchise.

"“We’ve always been inspired by the fantastical world of Eternia,” said producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch. “This movie has been 14 years in the making for us and our partners and we are so excited to tell an entirely new story for Masters of the Universe with the Nee Brothers and Dave Callaham for Mattel and Netflix and share it with a global audience.”"

The live-action movie is the latest in a string of Masters of the Universe projects Netflix and Mattel have teamed up for in recent years, with the two brands previously having teamed up for the animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a continuation of the storylines introduced in the 1980s series, and He-Man and the Masters of the UniverseCG-version of the series which will return for a second season on March 3, 2022.
