Emily in Paris has the perfect love triangle on Netflix with Emily, Gabriel, and Alfie
By Reed Gaudens
Love triangles aren’t a new trope in television, and especially not on Netflix. Some of the best Netflix shows, including Virgin River and Never Have I Ever, have centered their series around a compelling love triangle. Lately, Emily in Paris has perfected the art of a messy romance.
In the first season of the Emmy-nominated romantic comedy series, Emily Cooper relocates to Paris from Chicago for a job opportunity. Naturally, she stumbles upon much more than professional ups and downs as her personal life hits its own new beginnings.
Emily in Paris first finds Emily hitting it off with her heartthrob chef neighbor, Gabriel, which lands her in the show’s first love triangle with his girlfriend — and Emily’s new friend — Camille. Let’s just say, this particular love triangle doesn’t go well for Emily.
The second season blows up the initial love triangle in the messiest of ways, but Emily in Paris season 2 also introduced a new, much more manageable love triangle between Emily, Gabriel, and Emily’s French class partner Alfie.
Emily in Paris has the best love triangle
What makes the current triangulation in Emily’s love life so compelling is that she has two incredible options and we can root for both. The chemistry between not only the actors but the characters allows us to visualize Emily having a relationship with either.
Of course, things have always been and will continue to be a bit messier between Emily and Gabriel because of Camille, but thanks to romantic fantasy, you can’t help but root for Emily to finally get the guy of her dreams, who’s also pining away for her.
But there’s also Alfie. The pair clashed at first in their French class, but in getting to know each other, their connection grew. Alfie’s future with Emily comes into question at the end of season 2, though their love story doesn’t feel like it’s over just yet.
You might be Team Gabriel, Team Alfie, or Team Emily (maybe you don’t like either guy, and that’s fine, too!), but this love triangle has real stakes that we can’t wait to continue watching unfold in Emily in Paris season 3 and season 4.
