The Woman in the House, the dark comedy starring Kristen Bell, makes its debut on Netflix Friday, Jan. 28. The series blends the absurd with the offbeat for a show focused on Anna, a woman with a drinking problem who’s convinced she’s witnessed a murder.

The satire strewn throughout the new Netflix original pokes fun at the thrillers that have captured the pop culture mainstream for decades. There’s always a woman or a girl on some form of transportation or being seen through some kind of looking glass at the heart of a mystery. Hence the show’s full title, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window.

While viewers should expect to laugh when watching the series, there is a serious mystery afoot. Anna intends to get to the bottom of what she saw even if it was actually the wine playing tricks on her mind and she didn’t see a crime being committed at her neighbor’s house.
