Back in November, Netflix announced that they’ll be developing a biopic miniseries based on the notorious Colombian drug Kingpin Griselda Blanco — starring Modern Family actress, Sofia Vergara. But when is the miniseries coming to Netflix?

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming crime drama.

As of Jan. 2022, Netflix hasn’t revealed an official release date for the limited series. However, on Friday, Sofia Vergara, who described the upcoming series as her “passion project,” revealed to her 24.4 million Instagram followers that she had completed the first week of filming for Griselda, meaning shooting officially began around Jan. 17.

Given that Netflix shows usually take around six to eight months to complete filming, and then the show has to go into the lengthy process of post-production, we expect the series to arrive on Netflix at the earliest in late 2022, or more likely in early 2023.

Griselda cast

Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara, who also serves as an Executive Producer on the show, will lead the cast of the biopic, as “larger-than-life” Griselda Blanco. IMDb lists the rest of the cast members:

  • Alberto Guerra as Dario
  • Vanessa Ferlito as Isabel
  • Alberto Ammann as Alberto Bravo
  • Christian Tappan as Arturo
  • Diego Trujillo as German Panesso
  • Paulina Davila as Carmen
  • Gabriel Sloyer as Diaz
  • Juliana Aidén Martinez as June
  • Martin Rodriguez as Rivi
  • José Zúñiga as Amilcar
  • Maximiliano Hernández as Papo Mejia
  • Julieth Restrepo as Marta Ocho

What is Griselda about?

The synopsis for the upcoming show hasn’t been officially released by Netflix yet, but the log-line does shed a little light on what’s to be expected from Netflix’s new miniseries:

"“Griselda chronicles the real-life of savvy and ambitious Colombian businesswoman, Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. A devoted mother, Blanco’s lethal blend of charm and unsuspecting savagery helped her expertly navigate between family and business leading her to become widely known as the ‘Black Widow’”."
