A new Wallace and Gromit movie is coming to Netflix in 2024

After 15 years, the cheese-loving inventor and his lovable canine sidekick, Wallace and Gromit, are returning to our screens in 2024! On Thursday, Netflix announced in a press release that they’ll be working closely with the BBC on bringing our beloved Oscar-winning pair their sixth animated movie to a global audience. However, in the UK, it will first debut on the BBC, before it’s released worldwide on Netflix.

Creator Nick Pack is set to direct the new movie alongside Aardman Animation’s Creative Director of Wallace and Gromit, Merlin Crossingham. The press release posted by Netflix also adds that British television writer Mark Burton — known for Madagascar (2005), Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015), and Early Man (2018) — is on board to write the next chapter in the saga. But while “storyboarding [has] kicked off,” the movie remains “as-yet-untitled.”

The untitled installment is scheduled for a release almost two decades after the Oscar-winning movie The Curse of the Were-Rabbit premiered and will mark this as Wallace and Gromit’s second feature-length movie. According to Netflix, the new movie will revolve around Wallace’s latest invention: a “smart gnome” that develops a “mind of its own.”

New Wallace and Gromit movie release date

At the moment the movie doesn’t have a set release date, but according to the press release and Deadline, the animated movie “will air in 2024”. While this might be a bit ambiguous, we’re sure that once they get the majority of production done we’ll be given an exact date as to when we can expect the movie to come to Netflix.
