Texas Chainsaw Massacre release date update, cast, synopsis, trailer, and more
By Renee Hansen
Netflix has been killing it, pun intended, in the horror genre. In 2021 alone, the streamer released man films in the genre that fit the bill for horrors fans. There’s Someone Inside Your House, Blood Red Sky, the Fear Street trilogy, and Till Death are only a few of the new releases. In February, Netflix will release an ambitious project, continuing the 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
It is always challenging to tackle a sequel, especially when the original is an iconic cornerstone in a genre. The 1974 film Texas Chainsaw Massacre tells the story of a family of cannibals who kidnap, kill, and cook random people traveling near their farm in a remote part of Texas.
The film is one of the pioneers of the slasher genre featuring elements required to classify it as such. The main one is Leatherface, a hulking, skin mask-wearing, chainsaw-welding killer. This character is inspired by a real-life killer named Ed Gein, who wore human skin masks.
The Netflix film will be a direct sequel to the original, so anything viewers learn in the sequels, prequels, or remakes is out the window.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre release date updates
Netflix will release the continued story of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Feb. 18, 2022, at 12:01 a.m. PT and 3:01 a.m. ET. This is one film fans of the slasher genre will want to stay up and catch the premiere.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre cast
Mark Burnham will step into the shoes originally filled by Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface.
Additional cast for this film includes Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, Moe Dunford, Olwen Fouéré, Alice Krige, and Jessica Allain.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre synopsis
