There’s no better way to end the first week of the new year than with watching a horror movie like The Wasteland that’s sure to have you on the edge of your seats.

The film was just released on Netflix and it’s already sitting rather comfortably on the streaming site’s top 10 trending list. In addition to this, the movie is also receiving a fair share of great reviews from audiences all over the world who can’t stop talking about the slow build of suspense that certainly pays off in the end.

With all this talk and popularity, The Wasteland absolutely has to be the Netflix title you watch next, but before you do that, learn all about what this film is about below.

The Wasteland synopsis

Set in the 19th-century, The Wasteland (also known as The Beast) tells a story about an ancient beast running amok in a small village.

The beast feeds upon fear, making it nearly impossible for the average person to avoid, which leaves Diego and his mother helpless against it. Even still, the two must figure out what they can do to escape this curse, flee the beast, and save the girl it has taken possession of — doing so without fear, of course. How will they fare? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

See the official synopsis of The Wasteland courtesy of Netflix here:

"A 19th-century family living in seclusion is visited by an evil being that feeds on fear. Can little Diego save his mother from the beast – and herself?"

The talented cast of this horror movie certainly adds to its popularity as it features The Mess You Leave Behind actress Imma Cuesta, who plays Lucia; Roberto Alamo, who plays Salvador; Victor Benjume, who plays Hombre de la Barca; Asier Flores, who plays Diego; and The Barcelona Vampiress actress Alejandra Howard, who plays Juana.
