5 good Netflix movies to watch this weekend: The Patriot and more

There isn’t all that much to watch in terms of movies from releases during the week. However, there are some great Netflix movies from the Jan. 1 drop.

This week has had a lot of content arrive, but the majority of it has been TV shows. There is the new series Hype House and preschoolers have the new series Action Pack.

While there aren’t many Netflix movies from the week, there are still some great options to watch. There was a huge drop on Jan. 1, and you won’t have worked through all those movies just yet. It’s time to get your viewing schedule in order for the weekend.

5 must-watch Netflix movies this weekend

This list is in alphabetical order. It’s almost impossible to compare the different genres.

Binti

We start with a Belgian movie that dropped today, Jan. 7. Binti follows a woman from Congo who moves to Belgium. She’s living there undocumented, but she won’t let that stop her from living her dreams.

She want to become a famous vlogger. So, she heads out in search for a normal life without having any papers.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

Guillermo del Toro and André Øvredal brought us Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark in 2018, and there’s no doubt you’ve been waiting for it to come to Netflix to watch it. Now is that chance.

It’s based on the book of the same name, and follows the Bellows family’s shadow that has loomed over Mill Valley for generations. Sarah Bellows lives in a mansion and turns her tortured life into a series of scary stories. They all get a little too much for some.

The Longest Yard

There are a couple of Adam Sandler movies on Netflix right now, and The Longest Yard is the one to watch this weekend. It’s based on the previous movies of the same name, following a former football player whose career ended due to him shaving points from a game.

When he ends up behind bars, he ends up forming the cons’ football team to play against the guards. At first, nobody really trusts him, but he quickly forms a bond. Now can we win the game or will he fall into old habits?

The Patriot

There are some excellent historical movies out there. Mel Gibson has certainly starred in many of them, and The Patriot is one of them on Netflix this weekend. It also stars the late Heath Ledger in one of his most memorable roles outside of the Joker.

The movie follows an American man who doesn’t want to get involved in the Revolutionary War. When his son is killed by a British officer, he decides it’s time to get involved to get his revenge.

The Wasteland

One of the newest Netflix movies in January is the Spanish horror The Wasteland. It’s also known as The Beast.

This movie follows a family that is isolated from the whole of society. A terrifying creature torments them, testing the things that keep them together in their isolation. Is there any way of breaking free or will the creature win?
