We’re saying goodbye to another year and welcoming a new one in. Here are five good Netflix movies to check out throughout New Year’s weekend.

There are some excellent movies coming to Netflix through the weekend. Some of them are only just arriving at the start of January, but you may want Netflix movies to watch on New Year’s Eve. After all, the lookback at the year isn’t going to be all that positive when you consider the second pandemic year we’ve had!

You’ll also want to watch something with the whole family. The good news is there’s an excellent mixture of genres. We’ll put this list in release date order to mark the movies that won’t arrive until Saturday, Jan. 1, so you can plan out your viewing throughout the weekend.

5 must-watch Netflix movies to watch this weekend

Death to 2021

We start with a comedy special that we’re counting as a movie. It’s a follow-up to Death to 2020, which tried to find humor in the darkness of the year. That’s certainly the case here when it comes to the second pandemic year.

We get a look at online dating, isolation, and much more. If you’re not ready to make fun of the year we’ve had, there are still some great other options to watch.

The Lost Daughter

Olivia Colman is an outstanding actress, and there’s no way you’ll want to miss one of her latest movies. The Lost Daughter is a Netflix Original Movie that sees her play a character who heads out on a vacation to get away from everything in her life.

Of course, life has a way of catching upon us. That’s something Colman’s character realizes as she has to face her troubling past.

Happy Feet

Now it’s time for the Netflix movies to watch with the kids on New Year’s Day (or the day after!). These three movies all arrive on Saturday, Jan. 1, and we start with Happy Feet. The animated musical movie features some excellent music from all your favorite bands. And we can’t overlook the energy Robin Williams brings to the movie.

The first movie follows a penguin who doesn’t have the ability to sing the way others do. He can dance, though, and he needs to show that just because he’s different doesn’t mean he should be ostracized. The second movie is also available to watch.

Gremlins

Want a great movie from the past? Gremlins is a must-watch, and it’s available to stream on Jan. 1. Yes, this is set at Christmas, but there’s no reason you can’t watch it on New Year’s Day.

The movie follows a young man who gets a strange creature as a pet. He only has to follow three rules, but of course, it’s impossible to follow. Soon, New York City is overtaken by dangerous creatures that want to cause mayhem and destruction.

The NeverEnding Story

There are some great fantasy movies on Netflix, but there’s one that you need to watch whenever it arrives on the streaming platform. The NeverEnding Story is back, and this is a must for everyone in the family.

Bastian finds himself pulled into the land of Fantasia through a book. He needs to save the land from The Nothing that threatens to destroy everything it touches. Can he bring hope to the land?
