On this list, there are plenty of throwback comedies to keep us laughing from the past into the future. And there has never been a better time to reach back in time for comfort watches in the present. Fortunately, Netflix stays fully stocked with a number of favorites from long ago, like the delightful sitcom Girlfriends that is well worth rediscovering over 20 years later.

Girlfriends centers on a group of friends living in Los Angeles and dealing with all of life’s zigs and zags together. Joan (Tracee Ellis Ross), Maya (Golden Brooks), Lynn (Persia White) and Toni (Jill Marie Jones) handle all of the professional and personal curveballs thrown their way with an unmatched sense of humor and their girlfriends by their side every step of the way.

With an eight-season run of 172 episodes, it’s without a doubt among the longest-running sitcoms with women leading the cast and Black women at that. Girlfriends shouldn’t be as underrated as it is given the power of its hilarious cast. If you haven’t yet binge-watched the excellent sitcom on Netflix, this is your wake-up call to share some laughs with the best girlfriends you’ll ever have.
