The Witcher season 2 is the top show on Netflix in December 2021, and it doesn’t look like that will be changing anytime soon.

After fans binge-watch all eight episodes of The Witcher season 2, fans are turning their attention to The Witcher season 3 (which is already in the works on Netflix) and The Witcher: Blood Origin, the spinoff that recently wrapped production.

The Witcher creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich shared a major update on where things stand with season 3, according to TechRadar.

The Witcher season 3 release update

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like The Witcher season 3 is coming to Netflix soon, which is to be expected.

We shared the release update, via Tech Radar below:

"“Actually, this is our last week (December 3) in the writers’ room,” Hissrich told us. “We’re almost done with the scripting phase, and it’s amazing. I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favorite book in the saga, which is The Time of Contempt.“I feel like seasons 1 and 2 have been laying the playing field for everything huge that’s about to happen,” she added. “But the creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we’ll bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it’s the perfect season.”"

It’s awesome that Hissrich was so open about where things stand moving into the holiday season. There’s so much noise out there about what’s going on, and this cuts right through all of those rumors and speculation.

I think the key takeaway here is that The Witcher season 3 is not coming to Netflix for a long time. The filming date has not been announced, and we all know this is a show that takes a really long time to film. The series also requires extensive post-production to bring this series to life, which can push the release date out even further.

So, there’s a chance we could see The Witcher season 3 on Netflix at the end of 2022, but it’s very small at this point. For a show like this, we’re expecting 18 months (minimum) between seasons, which would put The Witcher season 3 release date somewhere around July 2023.

That’s our best guess for the release date of the new season right now. On the bright side, The Witcher: Blood Origin is coming to Netflix in 2022. That’s been confirmed, so we won’t go Witcher-less for a year like we did in 2020.

We’ll share more updates as we find out more information!
