Cowboy Bebop was released on Netflix on Nov. 19, and many held their breath as they dived into the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the classic Japanese animated series directed by Shinichirō Watanabe.

Season 1 of Netflix’s live-action adaptation follows a “ragtag crew of bounty hunters” who travel around the galaxy chasing down the “most dangerous criminals” of their society. The Netflix synopsis reveals that their heroics comes with a catch — they’ll only “save the world for the right price.”

So what’s the future looking like for Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine and Jet Black? Will Netflix give the sci-fi series another shot? Or have they pulled the plug on Cowboy Bebop? Find out below!

Is Cowboy Bebop canceled or renewed?

Unfortunately, if you were one of the few people hoping for Cowboy Bebop season 2, then be prepared for some serious disappointment. Just weeks after its debut on the streamer, the live-action anime series was canceled by Netflix.

It seems that the general response from critics and fans of the original anime series has been quite negative, with many being left disappointed by the adaptation. Rotten Tomatoes gave Cowboy Bebop just 45% while the general audience score was 58%.

It also appears that Netflix was disappointed with the response because the streamer announced its cancellation just 20 days after its release.

Of course, this isn’t a reflection on the Cowboy Bebop actors’ ability to perform in their roles, in fact, most of the positive comments the sci-fi series received from critics were centered around its casting. Many praised “the chemistry between the trio of bounty hunters” portrayed on screen by John Cho (Spike Spiegel), Daniella Pineda (Faye Valentine) and Mustafa Shakir (Jet Black), but unfortunately, even with the stellar casting, the show was scrapped by Netflix.
