Maid

Let me start this off by saying I know Maid just received three Golden Globe nominations and has an impressive score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. That said, it’s still just not talked about enough in my opinion. It’s certainly getting recognition, but for a show this outstanding, I’m calling it underrated. And Nick Robinson should’ve scored a nom, too!

Based on the memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive, the Netflix Original follows a young mother (Margaret Qualley) who leaves her abusive boyfriend (Robinson) in the middle of the night with their daughter. From start to finish, each scene is so brilliantly written and acted, it’s hard not to think about anything else. Make sure you get the tissues ready for this one.

Maid is both heartbreaking and inspiring, highlighting what many women have to go through to provide for their children. This is one of the best shows Netflix has ever made, so much so that I’m still surprised it wasn’t from another network.
