Runaway Bride is coming to Netflix in January 2022

Netflix has been quite light on the Julia Roberts romcoms as of late.

With exception to Mystic Pizza and the holiday flicks Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, the streamer has been bone dry when it comes to the ’90s romcom queen’s presence in their romance category. But thankfully, there’s another entry set to make its way to Netflix in January 2022: Runaway Bride.

The film sizzles with Roberts and Richard Gere’s chemistry which made the iconic Pretty Woman sing nine years prior and cements this 1999 movie as a romantic classic as well.

Instead of Los Angeles, Runaway Bride is set on the east coast where New York journalist Ike Graham (Gere) is paying for the factual errors he made in a write-up of Maggie Carpenter’s (Roberts) tendency to leave her grooms at the altar.

His one hope of saving his reputation is doing an in-depth piece on Maggie in her hometown of Hale, Maryland. Ike is expecting to find a mess of a woman, which he does, but there’s more to her than his previous judgements. And just like most of the men in her life, he, too, ends up falling for Maggie himself.

Too bad matters of the heart never do run smooth because while his attraction is reciprocated that doesn’t mean Maggie’s done with cutting her losses and running away from love.

When is Runaway Bride coming to Netflix?

Runaway Bride will be available stream starting Saturday, Jan. 1. Another classic romcom coming to the platform on that day is The Wedding Singer starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore if you’re looking to make your viewing experience a double feature.
