Outer Banks season 4 reportedly in the works at Netflix

Netflix just renewed Outer Banks for season 3 in December 2021, but it looks like the streaming network is already planning for another season of the Netflix original series.

According to a report from Small Screen, Outer Banks season 4 is already in the works.

The report cites a source close to Outer Banks who said the scripts for season 3 and season 4 were already being written earlier this year.

We shared what Small Screen is reporting about Outer Banks season 4 below:

"“We’re finishing up the scripts for Seasons 3 and 4. Season 3 should start filming this year and be out towards the middle of 2022 – if all goes to plan.”"

Will there be a season 4 of Outer Banks?

As the report mentions, just because scripts are being worked on, it doesn’t mean that Outer Banks season 4 is definitely happening. We have to wait for Netflix to make the final call on that, and since the network just renewed Outer Banks for season 3, we probably won’t see the season 4 renewal all that soon. We might be waiting until after season 3 premieres on Netflix for that to happen.

I believe that Outer Banks season 4 will happen based on what the creative team has stated about the future for the series in the past. It sounds like they have enough material for at least four seasons, and possibly even more.

Co-creator Jonas Pate told Entertainment Weekly the show could run for four or five seasons:

"“Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons.”"

So, if the plan is for four or five seasons, that’s probably what will happen given the popularity of the show.

Outer Banks season 4 release date

Hopefully, the fact that Outer Banks season 4 scripts are in the works means one thing: season 3 and season 4 will be filmed back to back.

We’ve seen Netflix do this with another teen show, Locke and Key, and it seemed to work really well. Locke and Key season 2 premiered this fall, and Locke and Key season 3 will be released in 2022.

If this happens for Outer Banks, we might be waiting a little bit longer for Outer Banks season 3, but we’ll likely have to wait for less time for Outer Banks season 4 to be released.

At the time of publishing, there are no rumors or plans that have been revealed for Outer Banks season 4 yet, but hopefully, that changes soon.

As things stand, it sounds like Outer Banks season 3 will start production in January 2022, but that’s only rumored. Outer Banks season 3 is expected to arrive in 2022, and if it does, it will be one of the best Netflix shows coming in 2022.

If Outer Banks season 4 is filmed right after season 3, we’ll see Outer Banks season 4 sometime in 2023. Even if they can’t film season 3 and season 4 back to back, we could still see season 4 in 2023.

But, if there’s another gap between filming season 3 and season 4, we might have to wait until 2024. That’s a conservative estimate right now.
