Bridgerton season 2 is coming to Netflix soon, and we just heard a very important update from Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes in an interview with Adweek.

In the interview, Rhimes said the initial plan was for Netflix to make eight seasons of Bridgerton. EIGHT!

There are eight Bridgerton books, so each book would be adapted for one season of the Netflix original series.

Here’s what Rhimes said, via Adweek:

"“We went in very clearly saying that there are eight books, so there are going to be eight seasons. And part of the adjustment at Netflix is this idea that that’s not how they do things. I would go, “So, we’re just going to make eight seasons of this.” To me, eight seasons of eight episodes doesn’t sound like a lot. That’s not even a year of episodes of [when I had three] ABC shows! But that’s just not how they lay things out.”"

How many seasons of Bridgerton will there be?

Although the Bridgerton season 2 release date has not been announced, Bridgerton season 2 is coming soon; fans know that! It’s easily one of the best Netflix shows coming in 2022.

Many fans also know that Bridgerton season 3 and season 4 are already in the works at Netflix, too.

Bridgerton is one of Netflix’s biggest shows of all time, along with Squid Game, The Witcher, and Stranger Things. If Rhimes has plans for eight seasons and the show is super, super popular, then I’d imagine that there will be eight seasons of the Netflix original series.

Now, it’s possible that things could change with the show in the future, after season 4. Netflix doesn’t usually have shows that run for eight seasons. Orange is the New Black ran for seven seasons. Grace and Frankie will end after seven seasons.  Neither of those shows are as big as Bridgerton.

Unless something changes with the way Netflix does business or the story that Rhimes and Chris Van Dusen (the showrunner) want to tell, Bridgerton will probably run for eight seasons. It’s still very early to make that call after one season of the show, but I don’t see this hype train slowing down anytime soon. Rhimes makes TV hits and hasn’t missed yet.

We’ll keep you posted on the status of Bridgerton, but this could end as Netflix’s highest season total yet when it’s all over.
