There are 26 shows and movies on Netflix throughout this week. We have big Netflix Originals that we’ve waited all year for and some third-party movies that are sure to entertain.

The week is also big for foreign language shows and movies. Look out for the new Indian comedy series Decoupled at the end of the week, and you won’t want to overlook the Vietnamese horror movie The Guardian.

But what are the top releases of the week? We’re bringing the top five so you don’t get overwhelmed from the full list for the week.

5 must-watch shows and movies on Netflix this week

This list is in release date order. It’s impossible to compare the genres, but we know what the top pick is likely to be for everyone.

The Hand of God

We start with one of the foreign language options of the week. The Hand of God is set in Italy in the 1980s and is a movie that is tipped for the awards.

It follows 17-year-old Fabietto Schisa. This awkward Italian teen just wants to find his place in the world, leading to heartbreak and liberation. It’s a coming-of-age drama in a way we don’t often see it.

Watch the movie on Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Darkest Hour

There are a lot of shows and movies on Netflix that include Winston Churchill in some way. The British prime minister was an important part in Britain’s success in the Second World War. It wasn’t an easy time for him, though.

Darkest Hour stars Gary Oldman as Churchill. It’s all about the decisions Churchill had to make on the eve of World War II. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you need to this week.

Watch the movie on Thursday, Dec. 16.

The Witcher Season 2

Of course, this is likely the top pick when it comes to shows and movies on Netflix this week. We’ve all been waiting for The Witcher Season 2.

This is the next part of Geralt’s journey, and now he’s joined by Ciri. He has to keep Ciri safe from those who want to do her harm and those who want to use her for their own gain. While he does that, we also need to find out what happened to Yennefer after she just suddenly disappeared and was presumed dead. She’s actually a prisoner of war.

Watch the full season on Friday, Dec. 17.

Bulgasal: Immortal Souls

If fantasy is more your thing, you’re in luck this week. Bulgasal: Immortal Souls is the series for you. This is a Korean fantasy thriller series, and we all know that Korean programming is proving to be the best out there right now.

The series follows a woman who goes through a death and reincarnation. She has been through the same process for 600 years and remembers each of her past lives. Then there’s a man who has lived as an immortal for the last 600 years. How are they connected?

Watch the series on Saturday, Dec. 18.

What Happened in Oslo

The final show to check out is What Happened in Oslo. This is a Norwegian and Israeli series that follows the story of a young girl and two Israelies. They’re captured by terrorists, and the authorities need to find them and save them.

The series is also known as The Girl from Oslo. The young girl is the daughter of a diplomat, and she will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of the abduction and get her daughter home safe.
