The first trailer for The Fall of the House of Usher is here! Netflix shared the full trailer for The Fall of the House of Usher on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, and it looks incredible. Unfortunately, we still have a month before the series premieres on Netflix.

Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are at it again. The new miniseries they are creating for Netflix, The Fall of the House of Usher, just got a release date this summer! From The Haunting of Hill House to Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan has been the mastermind behind several of Netflix’s best series, and we cannot wait to see what he’s bringing to the table next. The result will undoubtedly be extraordinary since they are using Edgar Allan Poe as source material.

We’ve seen many of Flanagan’s works on Netflix, including The Haunting anthology, Gerald’s Game, Before I Wake, and Hush. All of these mentioned have been outstanding features, making you wonder how he can top them.

This time, the creators will use Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” short story and some other tales to create this series.

The Fall of the House of Usher release date

Netflix just announced that the new spooky series will be coming to the platform just in time for Halloween on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023. Mark your calendars, because it’ll be here before you know it!

Filming officially wrapped on The Fall of the House of Usher in July 2022. There was a brief hold-up due to a misconduct allegation against cast member Frank Langella, who was originally cast as family patriarch Roderick Usher. Langella was fired after an investigation and replaced with Bruce Greenwood. Filming quickly got back on track and wrapped in the summer last year.

Flanagan took to Twitter to confirm that filming had been completed and to share some details on the production, in addition to praising the cast and crew.

In May 2023, Flanagan again took to Twitter to confirm that the series would be on track for a late 2023 debut, which made perfect sense. Another publication implied that the show might be in danger of getting canceled now that Flanagan has left Netflix and signed a new deal with Amazon, but thankfully, that rumor turned out to be false.

The Fall of the House of Usher synopsis

The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story penned by Poe and published in 1839 in Burton’s Gentlemen’s Magazine. It would then be included in Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque in 1840. It is a Gothic fiction story that contains themes of madness, family, isolation, and metaphysical identities.

The short story begins with an unnamed narrator arriving at the house of the Ushers at the request of his long-time friend Roderick. It seems that he and his sister Madeline are both very ill, and Roderick reached out to his friend for assistance.

Here’s the official synopsis, via Netflix:

"From Mike Flanagan, the creator of The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, a wicked horror series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth."

“It’s bats**t crazy in the best possible way,” Carla Gugino told Netflix of The Fall of the House of Usher. “It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.”

"2) The Fall of the House of Usher – I really, really, really love this show. It’s just wicked fun. I know you guys haven’t seen it yet, we’re still finishing it up, but I really think it’s something special. And it was a joy to make with such a huge cast of Intrepid All-Stars – so many of my favorite actors from all of the series, and a lot of the movies. It represents the definitive end of the Netflix era, and I just adore it. It’s also like nothing else I’ve ever done… can’t wait to show you. This one is fucking ambitious."
