We’re nearing the end of 2021, and we’re looking back at all the new Netflix original series and the returning Netflix shows with new seasons that came out this year. We share with you our list of the 5 best Netflix original series of 2021.

Of course, we still have many long-awaited new releases still to come. We’re still waiting to see Lost in Space season 3, Money Heist season 5 part 2, The Witcher season 2, Emily in Paris season 2 and Cobra Kai season 4. All of these Netflix titles will either be released in December.

We’re so excited for the new Netflix content slated to come out soon and expect these shows to be very popular with audiences. However, there are Netflix originals that have already been released in 2021 that we think are the best Netflix original series of this year.

Outer Banks is arguably one of the best teen series on Netflix. I mean, the viewership numbers don’t lie. When Outer Banks season 2 dropped on Netflix on July 30, it didn’t take long for this hit Netflix original to become the most-viewed show on Nielsen’s list from Aug. 9 through Aug. 15. And you can’t forget that when season 2 dropped, Outer Banks was on Netflix top 10 list for a long period of time.

People are obsessed with this TV show because of the tension, angst, romantic relationships, and friendships. The plot thickens, and the stakes are raised as the series unfolds. Just when problems seem to be solved for the Pogues, something occurs and throws a wrench into the works. There’s never a moment where you’re left feeling bored when watching this series.

Also, the show is very relatable. The Pogues face real-life struggles, such as issues in a friendship, first loves, domestic violence, and the pressures of preparing for college. The actors’ performances are also incredibly good.

If you thought season 1 was good, you have to see season 2. The conflict in Outer Banks season 2 has been turned all the way up. So much happens in season 2 that by the end of the season, you’re left with your mouth wide open. Season 2’s ending sparks more questions and sets up for a potential third season.

Netflix has not announced an official season 3 renewal, but there have been rumors that season 3 has already been confirmed. Even without an official season 3 renewal, we’re pretty sure we’ll be getting an Outer Banks season 3. So go ahead and add Outer Banks season 2 to your must-watch list. It’s an easy show to binge-watch on the weekend.
