Is Licorice Pizza on Netflix?
By Renee Hansen
The new release Licorice Pizza is another film that will give viewers a nostalgic look at the 1970s. Many moviegoers enjoy a look back at a time they fondly remember. That’s why so many movies with a focus on the ’70s and ’80s are so popular. If done right, these titles can tickle memories and create a beautiful tale of a bygone era.
Licorice Pizza is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, known for Boogie Nights, Magnolia, There Will Be Blood and another San Fernando Valley set movie, Punch Drunk Love. Anderson is a master at depicting flawed characters, and his use of camera work that includes long takes just sets his films apart from the rest.
The new movie has an amazing cast, too, including Cooper Hoffman, son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, a favorite of Anderson. It also stars Alana Haim, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Bradley Cooper, Maya Rudolph, Skyler Gisondo, John C. Reilly, Christine Ebersole, Ben Stiller and John Michael Higgins.
Is Licorice Pizza on Netflix?
Sadly, Licorice Pizza is not available on Netflix. It was just released in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Nov. 26, 2021, with an extended theatrical release set for Dec. 25, 2021. Considering it just came out, don’t expect it to hit the streaming service anytime soon. It’s more likely it’ll end up on VOD in a few months.
The film is a coming-of-age story that follows a high schooler and actor, Gary Valentine (Hoffman), who meets a photographer assistant Alana Kane (Haim). The pair become friends and set off to do many great things together. They interact with people from new and old Hollywood during their journey, including Jon Peters (Cooper) and Jack Holden (Penn).
Valentine is based on Gary Goetzman, an American film and TV producer who started the production company Playtone with Tom Hanks.
If you’re in the mood for a movie or show set in the past, don’t worry. Netflix does have some great nostalgic titles to watch as well. Check out Mystic Pizza, The Runaways, Stranger Things, Lady Bird and I Am Not Ok with This.
