Outer Banks season 3 rumors: Is OBX really canceled?

Take a spin on Twitter or Facebook where Outer Banks fans gather, and you’ll probably see some chatter about Outer Banks getting canceled.

It appears there is a rumor going around that Outer Banks season 3 is not happening and that the Netflix show has been canceled. For a while, we couldn’t track down the source of these rumors, but it looks like the source is a Facebook page unaffiliated with Netflix, Outer Banks, or anyone associated with the show.

Is Outer Banks canceled?

As of November 2021, Outer Banks is not canceled. It’s always best to wait until Netflix announces or confirms any cancellation news. There are always tons of rumors flying around about TV shows.

Thankfully, Netflix has not announced Outer Banks is canceled, so there’s really no reason to believe that the show is actually canceled.

If Outer Banks was canceled, you can bet it would be picked up by a number of fan sites and media outlets. This is a really popular Netflix original series with breakout TV and movies stars after all. We haven’t seen any reputable sources discussing the end of Outer Banks yet.

Is Outer Banks renewed for season 3?

Unfortunately, we can’t confirm Outer Banks has been officially renewed for season 3 yet either, but that’s not really that worrisome at this point.

Outer Banks season 2 was only released a few months ago. Netflix almost always waits at least a month or two to announce renewals, but sometimes, it can be even longer. Squid Game, the biggest Netflix show of all time, still hasn’t been renewed for season 2 on Netflix, even though the creator of the Netflix original series, Hwang Dong-hyuk, confirmed it’s happening.

And, if you want to believe the rumor mill, there are even more rumors, and even some reports,  that Outer Banks season 3 is already in the works.

Small Screen reported that Outer Banks season 3 AND season 4 are in the works.

There are other rumors going around that Outer Banks season 3 is starting production in January 2022.

Again, Netflix has not confirmed those rumors, but there’s definitely more chatter about the upcoming season rather than cancellation. One would assume that’s a good thing.

Outer Banks season 3 release date

There’s even a report that Outer Banks season 3 will be released sometime in “mid-2022,” if all goes well. That’s the same Small Screen report that mentioned there are two seasons in the works.

To recap, there’s no confirmation that Outer Banks season 3 is happening, but there are plenty of rumors and some reports that suggest the new season is already in the works and will be released in 2022.

If production gets started in early 2022, there’s a really good chance we’ll see Outer Banks in 2022 sometime. This is a show that probably only needs about four to six months of post-production. So, as long as production ends in April or May 2022, we should definitely see Outer Banks season 3 on Netflix by September or October 2022.

If production ends sooner or post-production moves more quickly, we could see Outer Banks season 3 in late summer 2022.

That’s what we know about Outer Banks season 3 so far! Outer Banks is one of the best Netflix shows. I don’t think fans have much to worry about regarding season 3.
