Will there be another Princes Switch movie: Is The Princess Switch 4 happening?

In 2018, Netflix debuted The Princess Switch, a romantic holiday film starring Vanessa Hudgens about a Chicago baker whose life was forever changed when she bumped into a princess who looked just like her and the two decided to switch lives for a few days during the holiday season.

The film was a smash hit with audiences and Netflix was quick to order two additional movies in the franchise with The Princess Switch: Switched Again dropping in 2020 and The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star arriving just in time for the holidays one year later in 2021.

Much like the original film, the second and third movies in the franchise managed to recapture the holiday magic with stories centering around the holiday filled with more romance, crazy schemes and plenty more trading places moments.

The franchise has become a fan-favorite among Netflix subscribers which has many wondering if a fourth film might be in the works.

How many Princess Switch movies are on Netflix?

Currently, there are three films in the Princess Switch franchise streaming on Netflix: The Princess Switch, The Princess Switch: Switched Again and The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star. 

Will there be a Princess Switch 4 movie?

As of November 2021, Netflix has not yet announced whether a fourth movie in the Princess Switch franchise is in development and therefore it remains unclear whether The Princess Switch 4 is happening.

Following the release of The Princess Switch in 2018, Netflix decided to greenlight two additional films which were released in 2020 and 2021. No such announcement has been made by Netflix thus far as to whether it will further the franchise with a fourth movie leaving many to wonder whether The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star was designed to serve as the final movie in the franchise.

When looking back at Netflix’s history, the streaming powerhouse has not yet greenlit the fourth installment of any of its franchise films. Instead, Netflix tends to keep to movie trilogies as done with the To All The Boys and The Kissing Booth franchises as well as the A Christmas Prince holiday franchise.

Considering Queen Margaret, Princess Stacy and cousin Fiona all seem to have gotten their happy endings as of the conclusion of the third movie it’s looking likely The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star was the final movie in the franchise.

The Princess Switch 4 release date

Although there is a strong possibility that The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star was the final film in the Princess Switch franchise, there is a chance Netflix could surprise us and order a fourth movie.

While the characters seemed to have gotten their happy endings in the third movie, there is definitely room for the storylines to be furthered and with the popularity of the movies, we could see Netflix wanting to keep fans coming back by ordering another film.

Netflix announced The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star in October 2020 and was able to begin production on the film shortly after which allowed them to drop the film in November 2021.

If a fourth film is given the green light before the end of 2021, it’s possible The Princess Switch 4 could arrive in late 2022.
