Where are all the Hanukkah movies this year, Netflix?

It’s that time of year again. It’s time to ask Netflix (and all streamers and TV channels), where are the Hanukkah movies? Where are the Hanukkah rom-coms? The dramas? The comedies? There are so many possibilities and yet, not a single Jewish holiday movie in sight.

When you type “Hanukkah” in the search bar on Netflix, what you get is, well, not great. The first selection is Unorthodox, a limited series about a Hasidic Jewish woman who flees to Berlin to get away from an arranged marriage. Great premise, but besides featuring Jewish characters, not related to Hanukkah at all.

The next selections include A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff, Nailed It! Holiday!, a holiday baking competition show, and (for some reason) Ouran High School Host Club, a Japanese anime show. Come on, Netflix! I know you have your problems, but you can do better than this.

I also typed in “Jewish” just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. It’s a lot of sad AF movies or My Unorthodox Life, a reality show about a very rich Jewish family and their drama. Nothing that really screams the magic of the festival of lights.

Netflix still has no Hanukkah movies

You have a deal with Dan Levy, a very famous Jewish person. Where’s his Hanukkah rom-com? Where’s his hilarious Hanukkah family comedy? We’re starving here, Netflix. We need some Hanukkah love! You’ve made at least half a dozen Adam Sandler movies. Why not a Hanukkah one?

There are so many Netflix Christmas movies. And I love them! I am literally counting down the days until The Princess Switch 3 comes out. But, why can’t we also have some fun Hanukkah-related movies?

Where is our Hanukkah fake dating romance with the “date” meeting the parents, and then oops, the two friends catch feelings and it’s not so fake anymore?

Where is our drama where a character has to deal with their problematic family for eight days?

And let’s be honest, we are long overdue for a Jewish holiday comedy!

So please, Netflix! Give us the Hanukkah movies we need (and please cast Jewish actors.).
