Gentefied is finally back with season 2, and we can’t get enough of the Netflix original comedy-drama series. From creators Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez and executive producer America Ferrera, Gentefied season 2 ranks as one of the year’s best new releases.

The series centers on three Morales cousins and their grandfather as they continue to work toward achieving their American Dream in East Los Angeles. Their family taco shop sees struggles as Pop faces deportation and each cousin makes tough life choices.

Once again, Gentefied season 2 strikes an amazing balance between unbeatable comedy and deeply personal and relatable storytelling about Latinx families in the United States. Emmy winner America Ferrera lends her talents behind the camera, but does she appear in front of it, too?

Here’s what to expect from the erstwhile Ugly Betty and Superstore star as an executive producer, director, and actress when it comes to Netflix’s Gentefied.

Is America Ferrera in Gentefied season 2?

In the first season of Gentefied, America Ferrera made a cameo appearance in episode 5, titled “The Mural,” as Andy Cruz. The character wasn’t pivotal, and it’s fair if you had forgotten Ferrera had even appeared onscreen with everything else going on in the series.

Unfortunately, Ferrera doesn’t reprise her cameo role in season 2, as much as we would have loved to watch the talented performer once again interact with these amazing characters.

Maybe Andy Cruz will make a comeback in Gentefied season 3 to once again offer the Morales cousins some advice, or she can pull a Tina Fey in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and play a completely different character in future episodes. You never know!

What Gentefied episodes did America Ferrera direct?

Even though we didn’t get to see Ferrera act in Gentefied season 2, the executive producer got back into the director’s chair for three episodes of the new season. She had previously directed two episodes of the first season, episodes 3 and 4.

This time around, Ferrera helmed the season 2 premiere (“Welcome Home, Pop”), the second episode (“Vivian Castro Hates Mexicans”), and the pivotal sixth episode (“Sangiving”). She shared behind the scenes photos of these episodes on Instagram.

We hope to see America Ferrera back onscreen and behind the camera for more episodes of Gentefied season 3, should Netflix renew the series.
