Netflix’s catalog of movies and shows is extensive, with something for everyone to enjoy. November 2021 has a huge list of new movies and shows that will be released throughout the month. One of the latest releases is The Harder They Fall, a new-school Western with an all-star cast, including Lakeith Stanfield. Netflix also has several other movies starring Stanfield.

Stanfield is an actor and musician who made his film debut in Short Term12 (2013). When he was 14, he joined his school’s drama club and attended  John Casablancas Modeling and Career Center in Los Angeles. He was soon signed with an agency and started auditioning for commercials.

He is known for his roles in Selma, where he portrayed civil rights activist Jimmie Lee Jackson, and he portrayed Snoop Dog in Straight Outta Compton. You can also see him in The Purge: Anarchy, Snowden, Get Out, and Knives Out

The Harder They Fall

The most recent Netflix film you can see Stanfield in is The Harder They Fall. This film is being called a new-school Western, and the soundtrack is pure fire. It is a must-watch for fans of Westerns.

The movie follows rival cowboy gangs, and Stanfield portrays Cherokee Bill, a historical figure of the Old West. The characters are real, but the story in the movie is fiction, though this takes nothing away from how amazing this movie is.

Someone Great

Another Netflix original film, Someone Great is the story of Jenny (Gina Rodriguez), a music journalist who is offered her dream job of working for Rolling Stone in San Francisco. The only problem is she currently resides in NYC.

When Jenny’s longtime boyfriend Nate (Stanfield) breaks up with her, she becomes depressed. The only thing that can pull her out of her depression are her two best friends, Blair (Brittany Snow) and Erin (DeWanda Wise). They decide to have one last hurrah before Jenny heads off to San Francisco to pursue her dream job.

This is one romantic comedy you have to add to your queue.

Uncut Gems

The crime thriller Uncut Gems is an A24 production that became the company’s highest-grossing film domestically, with $50 million made.

This is a wild film that is worth the watch. Howard (Adam Sandler) is a jeweler and gambling addict, who makes a high-stakes bet that could make or break him. He struggles to juggle his business, family, and everything else that comes his way. Stanfield plays Demany, a man who recruits clients for Howard.

Death Note

Death Note is a supernatural crime thriller that gets its story from the Japanese manga of the same name. Light Turner (Nat Wolff) finds a supernatural notebook known as Death Note. Anyone whose name appears in the book will be killed. Turner begins to kill criminals by writing their names in the book.

Stanfield plays Lebensborn Atubia, an intelligent and highly esteemed detective determined to capture Kira, a world-famous series killer.

Yasuke 

Yasuke is a Japanese-American original anime series that draws inspiration from the historical character, an African warrior who fought during the samurai conflict in 16th century Japan. LeSean Thomas created the series, and Stanfield plays the titular character.

The first season consists of six episodes, and Netflix has yet to renew the series, but with the positive reception, it is most likely to be renewed.

The Incredible Jessica James

The romantic comedy The Incredible Jessica James was released by Netflix in 2017 and is directed by James C. Strouse (Grace Is Gone).

Jessica James (Jessica Williams) is set up on a blind date after her split from her boyfriend Damon (Stanfield). The blind date is set up by her best friend Tasha (Noël Wells) with Boone (Chris O’Dowd). The pair discuss Jessica’s recent split and Boone’s recent divorce giving them a common bond to navigate the post-relationship world.

The film also stars Megan Ketch, Zabryna Guevara, Susan Heyward, Anne Carney, Taliyah Whitaker, and Sarah Jones as herself.

Come Sunday

Come Sunday is the story of Carlton Pearson being excommunicated for his views on universal reconciliation. The film is directed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland) with a script written by Marcus Hinchey based on This American Life’s episode “Heretics.”

The film follows Pearson’s story as he shares his belief that there is no hell with his parishioners. This brings heavy scrutiny from the Christian community. Pearson was the pastor of Higher Dimensions Evangelistic Center Incorporated in the ’90s with an average attendance of over 6,000 people. He would eventually be declared a heretic in 2004.

The cast for this film consists of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jason Segel, Condola Rashad, Lakeith Stanfield, Stacey Sargeant, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Danny Glover, and Martin Sheen.
