Netflix premiered the second season of Locke and Key on Oct. 22, and the series has quickly shot up the Netflix top 10 TV shows list. The series comes in at No. 4 behind the Netflix powerhouses, Maid, Squid Game, and You. Not bad company to be in.

The second season catches fans up on what has transpired since the season 1 cliffhanger. Viewers know that Dodge is still a threat, but the Lockes think she is dead, which can only cause major problems this season.

Is Locke and Key based on a book?

The Netflix original series Locke and Key is based on a series of comic books. The comics were written by Joe Hill and illustrated by artist Gabriel Rodriguez and published between 2008-2013. The characters and storylines stay true to the comics, with some of the details being switched up for the series.

The comics were published in a three-act structure, with each act focusing on two story arcs. Act one featured Welcome to Lovecraft and Head Games for its stories. Crown of Shadows and Keys to the Kingdom were the stories for act two, with act three centered on Time and Tide, retitled to Clockworks, and Alpha and Omega. 

The original run of the comic series consists of 37 issues. The issues are presented in chronological order and begin by giving details about the early discovery of the portal on the land where Keyhouse would be built.
