Scary movies on Netflix

As soon as October starts, the spooky season begins. Who is waiting for actual Halloween to get into the spirit? No one that’s who! And one of the best parts of the spooky season (besides candy) is watching scary movies. And where better to look for a variety of scary movies than Netflix?

The streaming service has almost every genre and trope in movie-form, including the “oh, they just moved into a new house and now they are being haunted by an evil spirit” trope.

Whether you’re into slashers, thrillers, psychological, supernatural or paranormal, or monster movies, there is a horror movie for every taste.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to be scared by sharks, demons, human beings, or your own mind, Netflix has a movie for that. There are a few fun scary movies like the Fear Street trilogy, and there are some that might make you hide underneath the blankets like Insidious and The Conjuring.

Whatever you watch, we are in the season of horror movie marathons so take a look at this list of scary movies, grab the ones that sound the best, start up Netflix, and begin watching!

And if you have to watch some of them during the day, with all the lights on in the house, or with your dog snuggled right next to you, no judgment here. We’ll never tell.

If you need more movie and TV picks for Halloween, check out this list.

Let’s take a look at 25 scary movies on Netflix, starting with The Conjuring!

The Conjuring

Haunted houses and malevolent spirits are always scary. Home is supposed to be the place where you get away from the dangers of the world and for your house to turn against you, it’s like the ultimate betrayal. That’s what makes so many haunted house movies, including The Conjuring.

The film starts off with Roger and Carolyn Perron moving into a new house in Rhode Island. If a movie starts off with someone moving into a new house, it’s either a horror movie or a romance. In the case of a horror movie, it’s never a good sign.

The couple moves in with their five daughters: Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy, and April. When they get to the house, the dog refuses to enter. That should have been the first sign something was wrong. Animals always know! Also, you should know the dog does not survive. So, do with that what you will.

The longer they live in the house, the more paranormal things happen. Birds fly into the house, the daughters hear things, are trapped in the basement and have bruises on their skin.

This makes Carolyn contact a couple of demonologists to get rid of the problem. Apparently, the dark forces in the house have latched onto the family, and even leaving the house won’t set them free.

It also doesn’t help that the history of the house is incredibly violent. Murders, suicides, and human sacrifices, oh my. Nothing good was ever going to happen in this house. Pour some salt on it and call Sam and Dean.

Even after the experts are called, more violent attacks happen including one with a doll that will haunt you for days. Why are demonic dolls the scariest thing in the world?

The Conjuring stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Hayley McFarland, Joey King, and Mackenzie Foy.
