What happens in You season 3 episode 4?
At the beginning of You season 3, episode 4, Netflix brings viewers a viewer discretion warning that notifies viewers that the episode features scenes of suicide and those scenes are explored throughout the episode in connection to the character of Gil.
In the third episode of the season, Love snaps after she discovers it was Gil’s daughters who exposed both Joe and Henry to measles due to his stance against vaccines. She bashes Gil over the head with a rolling pin and then puts him in the cage in her bakery’s basement.
Hoping to avoid having to kill again, Joe and Love do some digging into Gil’s past in hopes of finding a secret they can then leverage to keep him from going to the authorities to turn him in for, you know, nearly killing him and then holding him captive. In doing so, Joe discovers that Gil’s son sexually assaulted someone and proceeds to tell his findings to Gil in an effort to enact their plan.
However, what Joe and Love didn’t anticipate was for Gil to be overwhelmed by the news that his son had assaulted someone again and that his actions in covering up his son’s first assault led to another woman being attacked. Filled with guilt, Gil takes his own life in the episode by hanging himself in the cage.
After discovering Gil dead in the cage, Joe transports his body to Gil’s home where he restages Gil’s suicide by hanging him from the banister of the house and then framing Gil for Natalie’s murder to cover Love’s actions from the premiere.
It is these scenes involving Gil and his death that are the reason Netflix rightfully provided viewers with a viewer discretion warning.
