Who died in You season 3?
Natalie
Natalie’s death is the first character death of the season, and it happens in episode 1 of season 3. She is Joe and Love’s new neighbor and is also Joe’s new obsession. We find out that she’s a realtor, married to a tech entrepreneur named Matthew, and has a stepson. When Joe spots her, he instantly becomes infatuated with her and stalks her.
What initially seems one-sided on Joe’s part becomes reciprocated when Natalie invites Joe over to her house for a drink. She flirts with Joe, and they share a passionate kiss and almost end up sleeping with each other before Joe stops it. Joe goes back home and tells Love that he had a drink with Natalie at her house.
Later on in the episode, Love and Natalie have a talk, and Natalie lies to Love and says that she hasn’t had Joe or Love at her house yet. Love starts putting the pieces together and accuses Joe of cheating. Joe claims he hasn’t cheated on her, but Love just can’t let it go, especially after she finds out that Joe has been keeping Natalie things as keepsakes.
So, Love gives in to her darkest instincts and kills Natalie. She calls Natalie to set up a date to view a building that Natalie is leasing. While touring the storage unit of the building, Love notices an ax. As soon as Natalie turns around, Love swings at her with the ax and kills her.
Gil
Gil is the second character to die in season 3. Surprisingly, he didn’t get killed by Joe or Love, even though Love did want to kill him and directly contributed to his death.
Gil confesses to Love that he doesn’t believe in vaccines and that it was his daughters who exposed Henry and Joe to measles. Henry was very ill. So, Love hits him in the head with a rolling pin and stashes him in the glass cage.
After finding out from Joe and Love that his son sexually assaulted a female and his wife covered it up, Gil just couldn’t live with the guilt and died by suicide.
Knowing that this wasn’t the first time his son sexually assaulted someone, Gil couldn’t believe that his son would do it again. He thought he was protecting his son by moving and starting fresh in a new city.
Ryan
Ryan dies in episode 9. Joe kills him with a knife. To get Marienne to stay in Madre Linda, Joe realizes that he has to get rid of Ryan for good. So he stalks Ryan as he leaves the gym. As Joe looks around in the gym’s garage to find Ryan, Ryan sneaks up on Joe and beats him up.
As Ryan puts his bags in his car, Joe runs up on him and pushes him off the edge of the garage. Joe thought that Ryan was dead from the fall, but Ryan survived. So Joe makes his way to Ryan and picks up a knife to stab him until he dies.
Love
We should have seen Love’s death coming because she was causing so much trouble for Joe in season 3. In the end, Love is lethally injected with aconite by Joe and is left in their burning house after Joe sets it on fire in the dramatic and tense season finale.
We initially thought Joe wasn’t going to make it because Love had poisoned Joe with aconite, which paralyzed him, and she was about to kill him with a butcher’s knife. But, Joe, being one step ahead of Love, had suspicions that Love would try to kill him, so he had been observing her.
When Love began gardening, Joe knew something was up, and he researched the plants. He found that she had been growing aconite, so he researched antidotes. He didn’t know when Love would try to kill him, but he had an inkling that she would do it soon, so he took adrenaline (antidote).
The antidote stopped Joe’s paralysis after a while, and he was able to inject Love with a lethal dosage of aconite as soon as she got close to him.
This season had us on the edge of our seats, each episode with its cliffhangers. We can’t wait for You season 4! But, for now, stream You season 3 only on Netflix.
