Is the UK show Misfits on Netflix?
Back in 2009 and the early 2010s, Misfits dominated U.K. television. This dark-comedy sci-fi show tested the boundaries of what could air on TV, and it’s only a matter of time before it shows up on the Netflix trending page in the future.
The main characters Curtis, Simon, Nathan, Kelly and Alisha, all have their own secrets for why they’re in juvenile detention. The gang is forced to bond when they discover they’ve each developed a unique superpower after a freak electrical storm strikes during community service.
For The Umbrella Academy fans, Misfits features Robert Sheehan’s breakout role as Nathan. Sheehan’s characters Klaus and Nathan are actually pretty similar: snarky troublemakers with witty comebacks to disguise the pain. You may also recognize Simon’s actor, Iwan Rheon, as Ramsey Bolton from Game of Thrones.
What is Misfits about?
Season 1, which aired in 2009, follows the group as they grapple with their newfound abilities, at first causing mayhem for the sake of it. Curtis, Simon, Nathan, Kelly and Alisha must work together to cover up murder, develop their powers, and escape from the aftermath of the effects the storm had on their town.
Season 2 starts as the gang are finishing their six-week community service sentence. A mysterious figure has been stalking them throughout the town: Who is he, and what does he want with them? The group must also decide whether they want to keep their powers when former drug dealer Seth approaches them with the ability to transfer supernatural powers.
Season 3 marks the end of Nathan’s time in the show and the introduction of Rudy, another delinquent who serves as the replacement comic relief. The characters Alisha, Simon, Kelly and Seth are retired after season 3 ends, replaced by newcomers Jess, Finn and Alex in season 4. Curtis’ character is retired midway through season 4, formally ending the reign of the original cast, and is replaced by Abbey and Nadine.
The main characters for season 5 are Rudy, “Rudy Two,” Alex, Jess, Finn and Abbey. This new gang faces off against Satanic powers, time skips, and delinquent gangs.
The series officially ended in 2013 after 37 episodes. Although fans have a distaste for the later seasons, Misfits will no doubt go down in history as one of the best British dark-comedy shows of all time.
Where can I watch Misfits?
As of October 2021, Netflix has not acquired the rights to add Misfits to its platform.
Hopefully, someday we’ll be able to stream Misfits without ads on Netflix, but for now, you can watch the show on Hulu with a subscription and Tubi for free.
You can also rent or buy the show on Google Play, Vudu, Amazon or iTunes. Be warned, this show is not for the faint of heart, as it’s rated TV-MA for language, violence, sex and more.
