You season 3 follows Joe and Love as they try to adjust to their new life in a new city with their new baby. Needless to say, the transition is rocky. We see Joe and Love really struggle throughout the season, especially early in the season of the Netflix original series.

Spoilers for You season 3 below!

Those struggles are complicated when Joe and Love’s baby boy, Henry, gets very sick and is rushed to the hospital. We quickly find out that Henry (and Joe!) have a bad case of measles. How did Henry (and Joe!) get measles?

The MMR vaccine, which prevents measles among measles, mumps, and rubella, is given at 12 months. In You season 3, Henry is less than a year old, which means he was exposed to the disease by someone else who was not vaccinated.

Who gives Henry measles in You season 3?

We learn pretty quickly that Joe is also not vaccinated against measles, so it could have been him. At the end of episode 3, we find out who the people who exposed Henry to measles are.

Gil shows up at A Fresh Tart, Love’s new bakery, just before she’s about to close. He orders half of a dozen blueberry muffins, and then, he breaks the news that his daughters are responsible for Henry getting measles. They exposed him at the birthday party in the second episode. He also explains that he doesn’t believe in vaccinations.

Gil’s wife, Margaret, who Love had just talked to on the phone about Henry when she let her know that Henry had measles and her kids could be sick, didn’t mention her daughters were already sick, which feels like a major betrayal to Love, who had been blamed and shamed by Sherry and the other moms from the party.

In a rage, Love hits Gil in the head with a rolling pin, which leads to a bunch of other major stuff happening this season.

This episode and storyline is clearly a commentary on what’s going with the pandemic in the United States and abroad.
