Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2 is not coming to Netflix in 2021
Ever since Gilmore Girls premiered on The WB over 20 years ago, the comedy-drama series has been a beloved staple. As the years have passed, fans have only wondered whether Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2 will ever happen on Netflix.
In 2016, Netflix reassembled the Gilmore Girls cast for a four-part revival series following a resurgence in popularity in the streaming era. Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel returned as Lorelai and Rory for a reunion that was well worth the wait.
Although some fans were less than pleased with what happened in A Year in the Life and how the revival ended, the chatter of another season of the revival series hasn’t ever died down. Rumors are constantly swirling about the cast returning to Stars Hollow one more time.
Since rumors have once again been raging about the possibility of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2 coming to Netflix in November 2021, it’s time for a status update on when — if ever — the second season of the revival could come to Netflix.
Is Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2 happening?
Unfortunately, Netflix hasn’t announced any official plans about Gilmore Girls returning for a second revival miniseries.
Because the adored show seems to be an autumn season standby for many fans, the rumors of more years in the Gilmores’ lives seem to recur every year around the same time. According to What’s on Netflix, false reports have been getting fans’ hopes way up in 2020 and now in 2021.
Still, there’s always the possibility that miracles could happen and the stars could align for a second edition of A Year in the Life. Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of the original and the revival, has mentioned in the past that returning to Stars Hollow is never off the table.
As recently as April 2021, Graham has also spoken about being open to coming back to Lorelai’s fast-talking world should the story serve the fans and the characters. She reiterates that nothing has been officially discussed, but she’s still tight with Sherman-Palladino, Bledel and Kelly Bishop.
Right now, we shouldn’t run on the assumption that more Gilmore Girls will definitely happen someday. Rather, we should rest easy in the knowledge that it could. But whether it happens or not, we should be grateful we had the chance to catch up with Lorelai, Rory and Emily at all.
While we wait to see if we’ll ever find out who’s the father of Rory’s baby (sorry, the statute of limitations on spoilers expired a long time ago), make sure to keep binge-watching the original series, since it could be leaving Netflix sometime in the distant future.
