The comedy-drama centered on Jen Harding (Christina Applegate), a widow in search of the hit-and-run driver who took her husband’s life, delves into topics of grief and loss while also embracing what makes life an exceptional experience like an unexpected friendship.
Judy Hale, an optimist played by Applegate’s co-lead Linda Cardellini, is the complete opposite of Jen. She’s the free-spirited counterpart to Jen’s wound-tight personality. Judy, however, isn’t all that she seems, which becomes more and more apparent as the episodes go on.
Their bond, as well as Dead to Me‘s twists and turns, is what has made the series such a success. It’s also what garnered the show a renewal in 2020 for its third season. Here’s what we know about Dead to Me season 3.

Is there going to be a season 3 of Dead to Me?
Dead to Me was renewed for a season 3. It will, however, be the final season of the series.
Feldman told Deadline that the conclusion of Jen and Judy’s story came to her during production of the show’s second season. She stated:
I always knew from the inception of the show that I didn’t want it to be a long long-running show. Then there was a certain point when we were in production on Season 2 when the end of the show came to me, pretty profoundly, so I realized, ‘I know the story that I have to tell’ and Season 3 feels like the right time to do that. It’s just something that came to me organically, and I tend to try to follow the gut feelings I have.
Clearly, fans don’t have to worry about a pasted-together series end prompted by a renewal simply meant to tie up loose ends.
Feldman cited Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s decision to end her runaway hit Fleabag after two seasons as a move that left an impression on her.
Referred to in the article as “self-editing skills,” creators determining the end of a series before it jumps the shark is something we hope becomes a regular occurrence.

The first two seasons of Dead to Me consisted of 10 episodes each. Each episode was about 30 minutes long. Season 3 of the series will likely follow in the same vein.

Dead to Me season 3 release date
The third season of Dead to Me doesn’t have a release date yet. We can say that the show has missed its usual premiere date window of the first week in May and will not premiere on Netflix in 2021. Currently, we’re looking at a release date sometime in 2022.
If production gets back on track by the end of the year, then the final season could hit Netflix in the early months of 2022, potentially in February or March. But Dead to Me could very well be back in its old release month of May in 2022 depending on the timing of filming and post-production.
