ParaNorman age rating: Is the movie appropriate for kids?
By Renee Hansen
Netflix is ready for Halloween, with many titles to choose from. There is even a great variety of options for fun family viewing. ParaNorman happens to be one of those movies!
ParaNorman is on the list of the best Halloween movies on Netflix right now.
This movie is fantastic not only because of its horror theme but because it is a stop motion film and the first to use a 3D printer for the character’s faces. The movie was nominated for 2012’s Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film.
But, is ParaNorman okay for kids?
ParaNorman age rating
ParaNorman has a PG rating because it does contain some violent and scary scenes. So, the younger kids will find many parts scary, but older children will handle the scenes in this film.
There are some scenes of animated violence, but they are done in a slapstick manner for laughs. There are many zombies featured whose limbs tend to fall off on occasion. And Norman’s gift is seeing and speaking to the dead.
In the movie, Norman Babcock is an ordinary boy, except that he can hear and speak to the dead. His friend, Neil, is the only one who believes he can do this, and they are both bullied by the same guy, Alvin.
One day, Norman’s estranged uncle Mr. Prenderghast confides that he, too, can hear and speak to the dead. He also tells him that the town is in danger from a curse that a witch cast over the town 300 years ago when she was put to death by the townspeople. It is up to Norman and his friends to figure out how to save the town.
The movie features the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tucker Albrizzi, Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin, Elaine Stritch, Bernard Hill, Jodell Ferland, Tempestt Bledsoe, Alex Borstein and John Goodman.
Be sure to watch ParaNorman this Halloween season on Netflix.
