Are you ready witches? CAOS is coming to Riverdale season 6!

We’re fresh off the Riverdale season 5 finale, Netflix Lifers, and these writers are still coming for our necks with their bonkers content.

Now, it’s no surprise that we’ve been chomping at the bit around these parts wondering about a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover. The Netflix original series toyed with the Blossom lineage making it canon in their universe that the family had a tie to witch heritage.

However, that hadn’t been quite explicit in Riverdale. Season 5 subtly began changing that when the Blossoms prayed at a dark altar for wind to blow a fire from their groves. Each episode since “Chapter Eighty-Six: The Pincushion Man” has steadily led us to believe more and more that the door was opening for witchcraft to enter the show’s plot.

Nothing made that more clear than last night’s reveal that Cheryl’s ancestor Abigail was burned at the stake by Jughead, Betty, and Archie’s ancestors in a ploy to get a hold of her palladium. Abigail invoked Satan’s name when she cursed them and their descendants.

Cheryl read that curse aloud with Nana Rosa and Britta firming a triangle, one that must have been imbued with power because a chilling wind blew through the town. Clearly something wicked this way comes in Riverdale season 6, and it looks like it’ll be bringing one of our favorite witches to town.

Will there be a CAOS crossover in Riverdale season 6?

Yes! Riverdale fans, it seems we’re finally getting the crossover we’ve been dying for! The official Riverdale Twitter account recently dropped a picture of Kiernan Shipka, Sabrina herself, in a director’s chair with the witch’s name inscribed over the Riverdale logo.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also confirmed the crossover in a statement to Entertaintment Weekly:

"We’ve been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since season 1, so it’s thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our ‘Rivervale’ special event. It’s also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds — I think fans will, too. It’s really fun and special."

How will Sabrina help Cheryl?  In the fourth episode of the five episode event, titled “The Witching Hour(s),” Cheryl will be performing a spell with the life of a member of the Blossom family hanging in the balance. As a new witch, it’s likely out of her league, but she’ll have Sabrina there to assist.

That’s the only plot point shared about the crossover thus far, but we couldn’t help but notice that Shipka’s chair in the photo has been placed in Jughead’s room out in Archie’s garage.

The two are friends in the comics so perhaps the show will be giving a nod to that relationship in season 6. We sure hope so! In the meantime, we’re ecstatic that this crossover is in the works, and we’re only a little over a month away from the five episode event set to kick off the sixth season.
