The final season of On My Block has dropped on Netflix, and we’re shocked by everything that has happened this season. However, what really shocked us in On My Block season 4 was Ruby visiting Latrelle in juvie. Did you see that coming? Cause we sure didn’t!

To give you background on Ruby and Latrelle’s relationship, Latrelle is a member of the Prophet$ and is the person who pulled the trigger on Ruby and Olivia at Olivia’s quinceañera in season 1.

After that traumatic experience, Ruby was never the same. He suffered from PTSD all throughout season 2 and became fearful of everything and everyone. Finally, in season 3, we begin to see Ruby become stronger and less fearful.

But the people around him still treated him like he was helpless. They’d walk on eggshells around him because they were afraid of disturbing him. Now in On My Block season 4, Ruby is speaking up for himself and letting people know that he can handle the truth.

So why does Ruby visit Latrelle in juvie? We’re about to answer this question right now.

WARNING: Spoilers from On My Block season 4 ahead!

Why does Ruby visit Latrelle in On My Block?

After finding out about Abuelita’s health diagnosis from Jamal, Ruby feels betrayed that Abuelita would hide such a big secret from him. Of course, it didn’t help that Ruby had just found out that Jamal and Jasmine were secretly hanging out behind his back.

He then contacts Abuelita while sitting in her car and lets out all of his frustrations. He lets Abuelita know that he doesn’t need protection and just wants people to be honest with him. Abuelita tells Ruby to open up the glove compartment, and Ruby finds an envelope addressed to him.

He opens the letter, but we don’t know where it’s from until later in the episode. The next time we see Ruby, he’s in a juvenile detention center meeting with Latrelle.

He visits Latrelle to get closure. The letter that was addressed to him was from the juvenile detention center informing him that Latrelle was going to be transferred out of juvie when he turned 18 years old.

Now that Ruby isn’t afraid anymore, he can visit Latrelle and tell him how he feels about what he did. He tells him that he doesn’t have power over him anymore.

The conversation that they had was very emotional. We learn that when they were kids, they were actually friends. But as they grew up, their lives went in different directions, and unfortunately for Latrelle, he was forced to join the Prophet$. Latrelle didn’t have any other option but to join a gang because those were the cards he was dealt. This didn’t make what he did right, but it helped Ruby understand why he did what he did.

We’re glad that Ruby got the closure he needed so that he could let go of the past and focus on his future. On My Block season 4 was a great series conclusion, and we’ll miss this hit Netflix original! Be sure to stream season 4 of On My Block only on Netflix.
