October is a great month for scares, but not everyone wants that. There is a great selection of movies on Netflix to watch this month.

This month sees a lot of great TV shows coming to Netflix. You likely have You and Locke & Key on your list of shows to watch. But what if you don’t have time to binge-watch a lot of TV shows? Sometimes you have time for a movie or two.

October is the scariest month of the year. It’s the time for everyone to watch their favorite horror movies, whether old or new. But not everyone wants horror.

The good news is Netflix gets you. There’s something for all interests, whether you prefer heist movies or romance.

5 must-watch movies on Netflix in October 2021

This list is in release date order to make scheduling a lot easier and because you just can’t compare genres.

The Guilty

We start with a Netflix Original Movie dropping on Oct. 1. Jake Gyllenhaal is a cop who is demoted to being a 9-1-1 dispatcher. That leads to him receiving a harrowing call, and he just can’t help but want to do something to save this person.

He ends up on a journey of self-discovery and reconciliation as he works to save lives. It will also give him a chance to think carefully about his decisions from the past.

Despicable Me

Need something for the whole family? Despicable Me is on Netflix again. In fact, all the Despicable Me movies are on Netflix, including Minions. This is a great way to keep the kids entertained throughout the month.

The first movie is the best. We meet Gru, who wants to steal the moon. To do that, he adopts some orphans and uses his minions to make his plan a success. And maybe he grows a heart along the way.

Sinister

Prefer horror movies on Netflix for October? There is a good selection coming, and one that stands out is Sinister. Ethan Hawk stars as a father who moves his family to a new home that was the place where a whole family was murdered. Yes, he wants to research the murder and write about it, much to his family’s displeasure.

Things take a turn for the worse when his children are affected by something supernatural. His research takes him down a dark turn, but will he be able to protect his family from this dark creature?

Hypnotic

Another horror movie to check out is one of the Netflix Original Movies. Hypnotic is about a woman who wants to improve her life. She decides to head to a renowned hypnotherapist, but things take a dark turn for the worse.

The sessions are intense, but it’s all about things that happen afterward. There are some deadly consequences.

Army of Thieves

Finally, it’s a heist movie. Yes, it is set in a world with zombies, but the movie itself is mostly about the heist. It’s the spin-off movie from Army of the Dead starring Dave Bautista. You may want to watch the first movie to meet one of the characters, but you shouldn’t need to understand everything that happened in the movie except how the zombies came to be trapped in Las Vegas.

In the midst of the zombie outbreak, a group of thieves decides to take on their biggest heist yet. Will they all survive?
